Come celebrate the shortest day (and longest night) and the “rebirth” of the sun with a community craft and guided meditation at Rise Up Refill. We’ll make scented evergreen and dried flower swags with natural, locally-grown materials. These festive bundles of flora will be beautiful adornments for your home this winter season and beyond. Swags also make delightful last minute holiday gifts. After our craft, Hillary of Willow Tree Journeys will lead us in a guided group mandala meditation to reflect on the year past and to set intentions for the year ahead.

All materials and supplies provided. You’re welcome to bring your own materials or embellishments for your swag or to share with the group.

Comes with:

  • Hands-on demonstration

  • Fresh evergreen trimmings

  • Dried flowers, foliage, and fruit

  • Pine cones and berry branches

  • Decorative bells

  • Festive essential oils

  • Seasonal ribbon

  • Light refreshments

  • Guided plant mandala meditation

Complimentary mulled wine and nonalcoholic bevvies.

Grab your crafty friends and join us for a celebratory evening of creating, socializing, and reflecting at Rise Up Refill in historic downtown Waterbury Village.

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year and the turning point when darkness begins to give way to light. Long honored across cultures, it’s a time for reflection and setting intentions for the months ahead.

Crafting during the Winter Solstice is a meaningful way to slow down, work with natural materials, and honor this seasonal shift. Making something tangible helps ground intentions, invite warmth and creativity, and transform reflection into ritual. Traditionally used for adornment or protection, a swag symbolizes resilience, continuity, and life enduring through the darkest time of year.

To close the experience, we’ll gather for a guided group mandala meditation, using remaining plant materials to collectively build a temporary, circular design illuminated by candle light. This shared ritual emphasizes mindfulness, balance, and impermanence, allowing participants to release intentions, connect in community, and honor the cycle of renewal that the Winter Solstice represents—while enjoying thoughtfully crafted cocktails in a warm, welcoming space.
